Techsters Finish as All-Americans at NCAA Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Louisiana Tech seniors Nina Gilbert, Latonia Wilson, Krystal Cole and Miriam Barnes finished the indoor track season as All-Americans after their efforts in the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships Saturday on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

The 4x400 relay team of Gilbert, Wilson, Cole and Barnes finished a spectacular fifth in the nation with a time of 3:34.68 which also breaks Louisiana Tech’s school record.

“I’m extremely proud of those kids,” Tech head coach Gary Stanley said. “Coach Jackson has worked so well with these kids since they’ve been here. They did such a great job. To finish fifth in the United States is such a great performance especially against the level of competition we saw.”

After qualifying for the finals Friday, Gilbert also finished sixth place in the nation with a time of 53.21, two one-hundredths of a second off of her school record.

Any finishes in the top eight of their respective events finish as All-Americans.

Tech’s track and field team will return to action later in March to open up the 2007 outdoor season at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, La.
