Mondo Duplantis Breaks HS All-Conditions Pole Vault Record

Less than a year after he became the first high schooler to clear 18 feet indoors, Mondo Duplantis turned in maybe the best vault series in high school history. The junior from Lafayette, Louisiana, who competes for Sweden, cleared 18-2 to break his own high school indoor record, then jumped 18-5 for the best indoor or outdoor vault in high school history. Chris Nilsen vaulted 18-4½ for the old national record last outdoor season, breaking a four-year-old high school record previously held by world champion Shawn Barber. According to his MileSplit profile, the last time Duplantis competed before today was when he won bronze at the IAAF World U20 Championships in Poland.
