Krianne McBride Looks Ready For AAU Junior Olympic Games

She is only a 13-year old, but Krianne McBride is already on path to a bright career in track and field. In just her third year of running, McBride burst onto the scene last year as a 12-year old at the AAU Junior Olympic Games where she participated on a high level against the nation's best youth athletes.

The Elgin, Texas native got her start in running by way of another sport. McBride was a big time softball player until a very rainy season in the Austin area made it difficult to practice and play. "I felt bored and needed something to do," McBride said. Her parents eventually found running as a different avenue to keep McBride busy during the summer.

After joining the Texas Thunder Track Club, she would run and run eventually challenging and beating the boys in her age group.

All roads eventually led to last year's AAU championships. Where she competed in the 800m, 1500m, and 3,000m. McBride started off the meet with an AAU 12-year old national record in the 3,000m as she ran 10:11.30 for the win.

If that wasn't enough, she went head to head in two classic battles with another youth phenom Cha'iel Johnson of Miami Gardens Xpress Track Club.

McBride would add elite times in the 800m (2:20.63) and the 1,500 (4:44.32) as she placed second and third.

The young star is right back at it this year as she ran equally impressively at AAU Region 19 Qualifier. Going 2:19.43, 4:51.26, and 10:18.88, she has shown she is ready for the national stage again at the AAU Junior Olympic Games national meet.

The next stop for McBride and her Texas Thunder teammates will once again be the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, Iowa 7/27-8/4/2018.
