PINE BLUFF, Ark.-The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions Volleyball team has a new swagger and the excitement is mounting for a historical finish.
This year the Lady Lions have already inked their mark in history after defeating Texas Southern in four sets winning back to back matches for the first time since rejoining the SWAC (1997).
Looking to stay at second place and sweep the season series against the Lady Tigers UAPB came out with a sense of purpose and intensity. Both teams fought hard during the first set exchanging points until UAPB went on a late rally to finish 25-23. The second game was competitive for a moment before the Lady Lions pulled away 25-17.
TSU fought off the sweep winning a thrilling game three 29-27. Texas Southern had help from UAPB as the Lady Lions committed seven errors late in the game. However, game four was a display of complete dominance by the Lady Lions.
Mariah Roby and Jasmine Jacobs supplied the Lady Lions offense for the majority of the match and the dominated on defense fueled by freshmen middle blocking sensations Rachel Tims and Rachel Hornbuckle.
“It's good to see all the hard work we put in pay off,” said UAPB head coach La'Kyva Walton “We could have quit when things begin to look like the past, but now we have a testimony that hard work will pay off.”
The Lady Lions look to keep their streak going against Prairie View A&M University on Friday, November 12th at 6:00 pm. The match will take place at H.O. Clemmons Arena located on the campus of UAPB.
