Celsor, Kimtai Victorious at Rhodes Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Harding sophomore Kristen Celsor and senior Gladys Kimtai both won their events Saturday at the Rhodes Invitational outdoor track and field meet.
 
Celsor, a native of Searcy, Ark., jumped 5-feet, 5-inches in the high jump for her third career event victory in six competitions.
 
Kimtai, who hails from Iten Kabarnet, Kenya, defeated 14 other competitors to win the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 21.31 seconds. It was Kimtai's second career event victory in the 800 meters and third overall. Her last win in the 800 meters came last season at Central Arkansas.
 
Freshman Ewa Zaborowska, who has the top 800 meter time in Division II, ran the 400 meters Saturday and placed sixth of 20 runners in 1:00.30.
 
Sophomore Rachel Roberts ran a career-best 5:29.04 and placed sixth of 29 runners in the mile.
 
Besides Celsor's victory in the high jump, Harding had several strong performances in the field events. Junior Tiffany Chambers was the top collegiate finisher in the pole vault with a height of 11-05.75, just a half-inch off her school record. Sophomore Erin Perring was fifth in the javelin with a career-best throw of 98 feet, 9 inches, and junior Rhiannon Roper placed seventh in the shot put with a career-best throw of 37-09.25. Roper topped her old mark of 36-07.50 by nearly 14 inches.
 
Harding will be back in action Saturday at the Ole Miss Invitational in Oxford, Miss.
