JONESBORO, Ark. – When you break a record set by NCAA Division II Track and Field Hall of Famer Janet (Kogo) Cherobon-Bawcom, you have done something pretty impressive.
Harding freshman
Ewa Zaborowska broke Kogo's school record in the 1,500 meters Saturday at the Red Wolf Classic, hosted by Arkansas State University. Zaborowska, a native of Wejherowo, Poland, won the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 28.57 seconds, breaking Kogo's mark of 4:29.61 by just under a second.
It was Zaborowska's fourth event victory of the season and second straight in the 1,500 meters.
It was not the only Harding record to fall Saturday. Sophomore
Kristen Celsor broke her own record in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 7.25 inches to win the event. The victory was Celsor's fifth in her career and third this season in the high jump.
Both Zaborowska and Celsor are likely selections for the outdoor national meet in May.
Harding also had an event victory in the long jump, where
Cathy Ebenja soared 18 feet, 5.75 inches. Ebenja also ran an NCAA provisional time in the 100 meters, finishing in 11.83, but it was not her fastest time of the season.
Other Harding performers were
Dallis Bailey (3rd, 800 meters, 2:17.55),
Rachel Roberts (9th, 1,500 meters, 5:02.12), and
Tiffany Chambers (5th, pole vault, 10-6).
Harding's next scheduled meet is the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta on May 11-12.
