Harding Track Competes in Day 1 at Georgia Tech

Kopec ran his best steeplechase of the season Friday.
ATLANTA – The Harding track athletes competed Friday at the Georgia Tech Invitational hoping to either improve on their previous best times or qualify for the Division II national meet later this month in Colorado.

Lady Bison senior Cathy Ebenja entered the weekend ranked in the top 10 in Division II in the 100 meters with a season-best time of 11.79 seconds. Ebenja just missed that time, finishing 11th of 55 runners in 11.86 seconds.

Bison senior Wojciech Kopec was able to improve his time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Kopec placed second of nine with a season-best time of 9:12.46, more than two seconds better than his previous best. Kopec entered the meet ranked 28th in Division II in the steeplechase. His time at Georgia Tech will move him up a bit, but likely not enough to receive an invitation to nationals.

Freshman Lajos Farkas attempted to qualify in the 5,000 meters but finished 14th of 25 runners in 15:20.06, just under a minute off the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard.

Harding will have several more competitors in action Saturday.
