Zaborowska Places 10th in 800 Meters at Nationals; Barely Misses Final

Zaborowska placed 10th of 18 runners in the 800 meters at nationals.
PUEBLO, Colo. – Harding freshman Ewa Zaborowska placed 10th of 18 runners in the 800-meter preliminaries Friday at the 2012 NCAA II Outdoor Track and Field Championships. She finished in 2 minutes, 11.13 missed qualifying for Saturday's final by only 0.18 seconds.

Zaborowska, a native of Poland, ran in the second of two heats. She was in second place for much of her heat, trailing only Amy Varsell of Bentley before being passed by Chanelle Caldwell of Grand Valley State with a little more than 200 meters left in the race. Varsell and Caldwell both qualified automatically by finishing in the top two in the heat.

The top two in each heat and the next five fastest times moved to Saturday's final. Zaborowska's time was the sixth fastest among the non-automatic qualifiers. The last qualifying time was 2:10.95.
