Texas Top Foot Locker South Finalist Interviews

Neither the best competition in the nation nor the weather could hold back the best runners in Texas. After a hard day of work and tons of success, the Foot Locker Nationals qualifiers took on the Media.

See what they had to say to the MileSplit team in North Carolina.

London Culbreath - McKinney North - Jr.

For yet another race, Culbreath ran with the competition before pulling away. She talks about managing her workouts to be healthy and fresh for the two upcoming national championships she has qualified for.

Brynn Brown - Denton Guyer - So.

After a shortened championship season last year, this season is totally different for Brown.  The post season has been big time with her qualifying for her second national championship meet this season. She put in a smart race to get into the top 10.

Heidi Nielson - Katy Cinco Ranch - So.

For the second straight year, Nielson qualified for Foot Locker Championships. The weather and course conditions made for apprehension for her, but she was shooting for a qualifying position and a possible win in the final stretch. Nielson now has NXN and Foot Locker Championships lined up for the next few weeks.

Adoette Vaughan - Hockaday School - Sr.

Vaughan made up for a surprisingly fast start of the race. She was further back than what she wanted to be and was able to make it to second straight Foot Locker Nationals.

Allison Wilson - Montgomery - Sr.

Wilson continues to cap off her senior season with some amazing runs. Familiarity with tons of Texas girls in the race eased her mind. Now, that she has NXN and Foot Locker Championships, Wilson will push the pedal to the floor and shoot for All-American status.

Ava Peeples - Dallas Lake Highlands - Sr.

Again, familiarity was an advantage for Peeples. Determination was also big for her. Not having much of a junior season last year, she has really been enjoying a big senior season and qualifying for Foot Locker Nationals will be a good way to end things.

Cruz Gomez - PSJA Memorial - Sr.

After a long drive, Gomez gets the prize. After starting off the season as one of the hottest runners in the nation, there were some not so much desired finishes for a runner on his level. This performance is more like he is accustomed to and more to his liking. He battled the long drive, the cold weather, and the recent disappointment, to come away on top. Now, Gomez will take his experiences to San Diego for another shot at a national championship.

Carter Cheeseman Fort Worth Christian - Sr.

Cheeseman was pushing for the win, but when racing things happen how they happen. For the second year in a row, Cheeseman will compete in two national championship meets. The 2018 race schedule strategy and weather effects have a fresh body for Cheeseman to strike it hot in the post season championships.

Graydon Morris - Aledo - Jr.

Morris survived getting spiked in the achilles at the start and made up some ground in last 200m with a kick to get qualifying spot. He showed the composure and relaxation that perhaps only an international level runner could demonstrate. Morris will now be making his third straight Foot Locker Nationals.
