Kendall Hays of West Fork XC Senior Sendoff

What was your most memorable meet and why?

My most memorable meet would have to this years state meet. I got to help the girls team make school history bringing home the first ever cross country State Champion title, and the boys team also brought home a Runner-Up title.

Where did you face your biggest competition?

Over the years I've developed a few friendly competitions. I think we have all became friends over the years, but I faced my biggest competition in the seventh grade at the district track meet right before the 4x800. We've went up against each other many many times, and you can never tell which way it will go. Whether I win or lose I always love competing against this runner because it's always an awesome race.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most and

why?

I would have to say again this years state meet. I was picked second and our girls team was also picked second. We all had something to prove, and we wanted to make school history. We went out there and gave it our all and came home with individual medals and a state champion trophy.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I have been blessed to be apart of the program I'm in, so there isn't much I would change about it. If I could go back and change something I would make all of it slow down because it's flown by over the years.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

Running itself is challenging, but I'd have to say the biggest obstacle I've had to face is my mind. Before every race I let my pre-race jitters get the best of me. I had to work hard to mentally prepare myself  for each race, so my nerves didn't affect my performance.

What will you miss the most?

I'm gonna miss my teammates the most. I've grown up with those guys, so it's gonna be weird not being on a team with them anymore. I'll miss their awesome cheering when you run by them at meets, and their goofiness during practices. They all have bright futures ahead of them, so I'm excited to hear about their upcoming seasons.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

Don't hold back. Go out there to practice and meets and give it all you got and have fun with it.

"But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded."

2 Chronicles 15:7

What are your post-high school or college plans?

I will be competing in track and cross country at the college level next year at a college in Arkansas, and I'll be going to school for either Agriculture education or Elementary education depending on where I go to college.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to thank my Mom who forced me to go to track practice in seventh grade. If it wasn't for her making me try new things I would never have found the love I have for running. My Dad who always pushes me, is always my biggest supporter, and for going to the craziest parts of the cross country course just to cheer me on. Coach Red, who got me in the best shape I could possibly be in and brought out a passion for running I never knew I had. She has made me the competitor I am today, and I am forever grateful for the lessons and memories I have made throughout my years of being a runner as West Fork Tiger. My teammates, you guys have made school history and I was blessed to have been apart of it. You guys are going to do AWESOME things in the future, and I can't wait to see what y'all make happen. I'm thankful to have ran with all of y'all and gotten to become close friends. Also thank you to all the assistant coaches we have had throughout the years. Coach Wyles, Coach Houston, Coach Wade, and Coach Fry you guys have helped shape our cross country teams and I'm thankful to have ran for you guys. I'd also thank God for blessing me with the ability to run and for placing me in the small town of West Fork and allowing me to run for such an awesome growing program.
