Big SPC Girls Match Up That Was St. John's Maverick Ramble

Maddie Hatfield (1193) and Kevrianna Scott (1547) lead an impressive group of 2019 SPC girls

Adoette Vaughan won four SPC cross country championships. After the Hockaday star's graduation, it is only intriguing to see who would win the first post Vaughan era title.

It looked like the role would be assumed by it would a Greenhill runner. Greenhill runners had finished runner-up over the past couple of seasons including a runner-up finish last year by current senior Maddie Hatfield.

Hatfield is the top returner from last year and was easily considered one of the favorites heading into this 2019 season. She has performed up to expectations this year dropping fast times all years including a 17:30 PR and not once running over 18:53 on the season.

Also looking good this season is Kevrianna Scott. The Houston Kinkaid sophomore has been having a very good follow up season to her freshman campaign. She has top five finishes in every race this season including the McNeil Invite Elite Girls race where she beat Hatfield head to head.

This weekend at the St. John's Maverick Ramble, we saw the two go head to head once again. Hatfield won the race in a fast 18:00 with Scott finishing in 18:43 for third place.

The girl's team race was also a big eye opener at the Maverick Ramble.

Greenhill ran a fabulous 19:41 team average and had four single digit scorers leading to their 31 point total team win. They were led by Hatfield's win and an dependable finish by fellow senior Kaiti Ness.

Houston Episcopal and Kinkaid were involved in a fight for second place at the meet. Episcopal finished second by a two point margin 71 < 73.

Kinkaid ran away with last year's state team championship with 66 points and things this season looked like they were poised to do it again this year. With Episcopal (92 points) and Greenhill (93 points) back, this weekend's results show that the 2019 SPC state meet will be one heck of a team race.
