Cowboys place eighth at Arkansas Chile Pepper cross country meet

   FAYETTEVILLE,LA –Joshua Sawe led McNeese State to an eighth place finish in the Arkansas Chile Pepper cross country meet here on Saturday.


            The Cowboy standout, who was marking his first meet in three weeks, ran a  30:15 over the 10K course.


            The Cowboys finished in eighth place out of 32 teams while the Cowgirls were 14th out of 34 teams.


            Leading the Cowgirls in a 6K race was Tinette Burger who ran the distance in 22:12.34 and finished 43rdoverall.


            Oklahoma State won the men’s team title with 21 points while the Cowboys scored 232 points.  McNeese was the top Southland Conference school to finish as Texas-San Antonio placed 10th.


            Winning the women’s team title was Texas Tech with 35 points and the Cowgirls scored 417 points.  TAM-Corpus Christi led SLC teams with a 9th place finish.


            Other finishes for the Cowboys had David Rooney in 17th place at 30:27.15, Johnathan Koenck 39th at 31:10.41, Jarrett LeBlanc 82nd at 32:06.23, Ryan Barrow 132ndat 32:49.52 and Kevin Laughlin 171st at 33:43.76.


            Other results for the Cowgirls had Amy Guinn 70th at 22:46.39, Fionnuala Ross in 106th place at 23:15.9, Aisling Casey was 128th at 23:29.54, Candice McCormick was 131st at 23:31.87, Alvy Carragher was 169th at 24:02.94 and  Carly Thurman was 183rd at 24:23.07.


            The men’s champion was Colby Lowe of Oklahoma State with a 29:30:90 effort while the women’s individual champion was Lillian Badaru of Texas Tech who ran 20:31.32.


 

            Next up for McNeese will the Southland Conference championship meet Oct. 31 in Corpus Christi, TX.
