MONTGOMERY, Ala.- In what was a highly entertaining game featuring two of the Southwestern Athletic Conference's top men's basketball programs the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions fell to Alabama State in overtime 75-73.
Alabama State got off to a strong start offensively before the Golden Lions began to apply defensive pressure disrupting the Hornets rythym.
The conclusion of regulation play ended with both teams tied a 67. Alabama State outscored Arkansas-Pine Bluff 8-6 in the overtime period to capture the victory.
A total of five Golden Lions reached double figures led by Tavaris Washington who tallied 15 points. Washington also made the ESPN Top Ten Plays of the day as a highlight of the Washington leaping over a Hornet defender for a thunderous jam caught basketball fans attention nationwide.
The loss ends Arkansas-Pine Bluff two-game winning streak and also brings a close to a 14-game road trip to start the season. UAPB will host their home opener on Saturday, Jan. 16th at 7:30 pm at H.O. Clemmons as the Golden Lions get set to face the Southern Jaguars.
