PINE BLUFF, Ark.- Tavaris Washington led the way with 13 points as the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions defeated Prairie View A&M on the road 62-54.
Washington was the lone Golden Lions scorer to reach double figures in a game that was highlighted by UAPB's tremendous defensive effort. Arkansas-Pine Bluff stifled the Panthers offense throughout the contest as they held PVAMU to shooting just 34% from the field.
After going into intermission tied at 28 points, UAPB was able to race off to a seven point advantage at 39-32 less than six minutes into the second half.
The Golden Lions took their largest lead of the outing at 54-42 with 7:02 remaining after a Washington dunk. UAPB cruised on to victory from that point not allowing the Panthers to get within more than seven points.
The win moves the Golden Lions into a three-way tie for first place with Jackson State and upcoming opponent Texas Southern. Arkansas-Pine Bluff will face TSU on Monday, Jan 25th at 7:30 pm.
