PINE BLUFF, Ark.- Savalace Townsend led the way with 19 points, while four other Arkansas-Pine Bluff players scored in double figures in a 92-69 dominating victory against the Grambling State Tigers.
The win improves UAPB to 6-2 in conference play and one game out of a tie for first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Terrance Calvin tallied 16 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists nearly amassing a triple double in the win. Lebaron Weathers and Tavaris Washington added 12 points apiece on a night in which UAPB controlled the tempo of the game from start to finish.
Tyree Glass contributed 10 points for the Golden Lions as he went 4-of-5 from the field and 2-of-4 from the free throw line. Arkansas-Pine Bluff led Grambling State by 18 points at 27-9 nine minutes into the game and never looked back from that point.
UAPB took a 44-28 advantage into intermission before coming out clicking on all cylinders in the second half racing off to 20 point lead. The Golden Lions took their largest advantage of the contest at 29 points with 2:26 remaining in the game leading 88-59.
The Golden Lions will face Jackson State on Monday in a showdown for first place in the SWAC. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm at H.O. Clemmons Arena located on the campus of Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
