Bentonville West Sweeps Pole Vault, McCoy Wins 1st 6A Title

Bentonville West is enjoying life at home!

The 6A State Championships are taking place in Centerton, AR, home of the Wolverines, and in the first field final of the day, the team took full advantage, putting five athletes in the top 8, including the top 4 positions.

Lena McCoy secured the victory for the Wolverines, clearing 11-6 on her first attempt. Just a freshman, McCoy has picked up five wins across nine pole vault events this season and is the 12th ranked freshman pole vaulter in the nation.

Harper Clow finished second, just one week following her win at the 6A West Conference Championship. Clow has been terrific this season and though she came up just short of her first state championship on Thursday, the junior is sure to return for one more shot at a title next season.

Elspeth Clifton and Trinka Sullivan rounded out the top 4 in the 6A girls pole vault competition, scoring an important 10 points for the Wolverines. While Clifton came up just short of an personal best, Sullivan set one by nearly half a foot. Tia Keehn also finished 6th for the team.

In total, Bentonville West scored 31 crucial points in the girls pole vault this morning, which is aiding them at the moment - as of 2pm, the Wolverines sit in 2nd behind Bentonville in the girls team race.

Congratulations Lena and the Bentoville West vault's squad!
