SHREVEPORT, La.-Hannah Kador's 20 points led four players in double figures as #1 seed Southern defeated #8 University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 64-60 in a quarterfinal game of the Farmers Insurance SWAC Tournament.
Ashley Augerson scored 16 points, Tiffany Foster 12 and Freda Allen 10 points for Southern (21-8), which advances to the semifinals on Friday where it will face the Grambling State – Texas Southern winner. UAPB's season ends at 8-23.
The Jaguars led most of the way and took their largest lead of 49-37 with 10:59 to play in the second half and led by as many as 11 with 6:58 to play.
However, the Lady Golden Lions would not go away and scratched and clawed into the deficit. A pair of free throws by UAPB's Amanda Hammond with 24 seconds to play cut Southern's lead to 61-60.
Allen's layup with 11 seconds to play extended Southern's lead to 63-60. Tashayla Jackson's missed a three-pointer with two seconds to play that would have sent the game into overtime.
Shay Holmes led UAPB with 12 points. Laquisha Slaton and Jasmine Abrams added 10 for the Lady Lions.
