HARTLY, De.-In recognition of leading Arkansas-Pine Bluff to their first ever NCAA tournament appearance, men's head coach George Ivory has been named HSRN's 2010 National Coach of the Year.
After sweeping through the SWAC tournament, UAPB earned a convincing 61-44 victory over Winthrop. The Golden Lions advanced to the next round and lost to eventual national champion Duke.
The Golden Lions tournament appearance marked a first in the programs' history. UAPB also snapped a 17 game conference losing streak in the tourney with their win over Winthrop in the NCAA Opening Round game.
UAPB finished the season 18-16 capturing its first overall winning season since rejoining the SWAC in 1997.
