BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has continued to have a major impact on the UAPB campus and in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
The committee has been announced as the winner of the SWAC SAAC Coin Drive. The members of the SAAC competed in a conference-wide challenge against all SWAC member institutions. The coin drive took place at conference home basketball games during the 2009-10 season.
As a result of their win, the UAPB SAAC will receive $2,077.87 that will be donated to the Kevin Edwards Scholarship Fund, named for former UAPB baseball student-athlete Kevin Edwards who passed away in late November 2009.
"We picked the Kevin Edwards scholarship foundation because of the positive impact Kevin's life had on our entire athletic department,” said UAPB SAAC President Jasmine Jacobs. “Kevin was an amazing individual and we want continue to keep his memory alive.”
Throughout the 2009-10 athletic season the UAPB athletic department has remained committed to community service events that have helped uplift the local community.
Outside of the coin drive, they also assisted with a youth kick ball tournament, where the proceeds went to the CASA Women's Shelter. They have also supported campus wide clean ups and various other community endeavors.
