UAPB Athletics Host Annual Student-Athlete Awards Banquet

PINE BLUFF, Ark.- The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Athletics Department hosted its 3rd Annual Student-Athlete Academic and Athletic Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 22nd.
Over 240 UAPB student-athletes as well as members of the University's faculty and staff attended the event bringing a fitting close to what has been an amazing year for the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Department of Athletics.
UAPB's Terrance Calvin walked away with the 2010 Trotter Ford Student-Athlete of the Year Award. This past season Calvin led the Golden Lions basketball team to their first conference title since 1967 and first NCAA Tournament Appearance in school history.
The banquet has flourished over the past three years under the direction Ms. Florence Caine. This years' event was headlined by UAPB Chancellor Dr. Lawrence A. Davis Jr. who gave the keynote address. In all over 100 student-athletes were recognized for their athletic and academic achievements.  
 “The 2009-10 athletics year brought about tremendous success for our athletic program both scholastically and athletically,” said UAPB Athletic Director Louis “Skip” Perkins Jr. “It is our firm belief that we have some of the brightest student-athletes in the world of collegiate athletics. These exceptional individuals have helped shine a positive light on our university through their dedication to their respective sports and success in the classroom.”   
Currently over 40% of UAPB student-athletes maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better. Additionally Arkansas-Pine Bluff boasts one of the highest graduation rates in the state.
