AUSTIN, Texas - On Saturday May 8th, The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Department of Athletics bid farewell to a group of outgoing UAPB student-athletes at Spring Commencement.
Commencement ceremonies annually provide a moment to recognize the dedication and determination of student-athletes. Headlining Arkansas-Pine Bluff's 2010 Spring Commencement ceremonies was First Lady Michelle Obama who served as the events keynote speaker.
A total of 29 student-athletes participated in commencement ceremonies. In their athletic careers, they've competed in everything from football to softball, but now they will be celebrated for earning degrees in fields ranging from Agriculture to Finance.
"We take great pride in seeing our student-athletes take a moment to celebrate the accomplishment of something very special which is the completion of a college degree,” said Louis “Skip” Perkins Director of Athletics. "Graduation ceremonies are important reflections of a job well done, and a symbol of future dreams that can be accomplished with continued hard work and determination."
UAPB Athletics Program currently boasts one of the highest graduation rates in the state. Over 40% of UAPB student-athletes maintain a 3.0 or better grade point average.
