UAPB Sets Up Wall to Block SFA Free Kick

PINE BLUFF, AR-- The Lady Lions came out with a lot of intensity and scored right away in the first half at the 2 minute mark. Jade West scored off a Nicole Parks-Powell cross from the left wing.

At the 43rd minute Laura Sadler scored a fantastic shot from 25 yards out. “I thought that was to best goal scored on us this season. It was a world class goal, not keeper could have saved that shot,” Mazza said.

The second half was very intense and there was no scoring as both teams battled hard. UAPB had a few chances to put the game away, but failed to get the winning goal.

The Lady Lions went into overtime for the third time this season. Stephan F. Austin scored the game winner off a very questionable corner. “No one from our side touched the ball before it went out, but the linesman called it as a corner. Sometimes you just have to overcome those types of bad calls,” Mazza said.

The goal came at two minutes and thirty-three seconds into overtime. SFA played there corner ball deep into the box to Jordan King who headed the ball back into the box for Laura Sadler to finish the play.

“I was pleased with our performance today. I thought we did a lot of things that we worked on this week and it showed in our performance today. You have to give SFA a lot of credit. They are a very good team that has beaten some big schools. We gave them a lot of trouble but it only takes that one good opportunity against very good teams. I am very happy going into the conference with a performance like this today,” said Mazza

UAPB is set to begin conference play this weekend. The Lady Lions travel to Jackson, MS to play Jackson State on Friday at 4PM. They travel to Baton Rouge on Sunday to play Southern University at 1PM.

The Lady Lions next home game is Friday, October 8th versus Texas Southern University at 3PM.
