COACHES CONVERSATION: Bentonville HC Mike Power

MileSplit's Jerry Byrd visited with Bentonville HC Mike Power in this week's MileSplit Arkansas Coaches Conversation. The conversation started with the fact that Bentonville has produced four of the top eight indoor milers in Arkansas history over the last two years.

The alpha in the group is Brian Burns, who ran 4:00 at New Balance Indoors last month.

Other Bentonville milers who are in the top eight Arkansas all time indoor list are Matthew Shelly (4:14),  Carter Beasley (4:15), and Logan Hurley (4:17). Sheylly and Beasley graduated last year. Hurley is a senior on this year's team.

The conversation moved to last year's cross country season and the Tigers ninth consecutive Arkansas state cross country championship. It's the longest current win streak among high school cross country programs in the united states.

In part two, the interview moves into the field events where Bentonville's Will Neumann holds the No. 1 mark in Arkansas in both the shot put (61-0) and discus (184-1).

There are seven Tigers who find themselves in the Top 5 in Arkansas outdoor rankings. Those athletes are mentioned in the interview below.

Also, Power talks about the Bentonville girls track program, under the direction of Randy Ramaker. The Tigers' girls team is loaded with talent as evidenced by their relay teams having Arkansas No. 1 rankings in every relay race from the 4x100 to the 4x800. Yet another highlight on the girls' side is Bentonville's Laney Dollar , who leads the Arkansas list in the 300m hurdles.
