LSU Cross Country Teams Compete at Chile Pepper

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Facing the toughest competition thus far this season, the LSU men's and women's cross country teams finished 25th and 26th, respectively, Saturday at the Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.

Oklahoma State took home both the men's and women's team titles. The second-ranked Cowboys collected 22 points, finishing well ahead of No. 7 Indiana which gathered 73 points. In the women's race, the No. 28 Cowgirls racked up 72 points, holding off No. 24 Indiana by four points.

"The men did not compete as well as I thought they would," cross country coach Mark Elliott said. "I expect the rest between now and the SEC Championships to really benefit both the men and women."

Senior Richard Chautin paced the Tigers once again, finishing in 73rd place with a time of 31 minutes, 16.82 seconds.

"Richard did not have his best race," said Elliott, "but he still ended up with a pretty good time."

The trio of junior Cullen Doody, senior Tim Landry and sophomore Alden Heaphy were the next Tigers to finish. Doody came in 193rd place with a time of 32:49.97, Landry clocked a 32:51.00, finishing 195th and Heaphy collected a time of 32:54.13, finishing 201st.

The Lady Tigers were led by junior Laura Carleton. The Lake Charles, La., native finished the course in 18:03.61, good enough for a 65th-place finish.

"The women ran and competed well," Elliott said. "Laura, especially, had a good race."

The Dakota twins followed behind Carleton for the Lady Tigers.
Sophomore Dakota Goodman finished the 5k course in 18:45.96, coming in 149th. Fellow sophomore Brea Goodman finished 151st, clocking a 18:47.90.

The men's and women's cross country will next return to action at the SEC Championships on Monday, Nov. 1 in Fort Jackson, S.C.
