Erika Forbes (White) Scores Four Goals vs Alcorn State

PINE BLUFF, AR – The Lady Lions proved to be too much for the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University to handle. The game ended at 7-0 for UAPB.

The scoring campaign began at the 9th minute when junior forward Nicole Parks-Powell found the feet of junior midfielder Rachel Harker near center field. With the ball at her feet, Harker slotted a through ball to junior forward Silvia Fuentes who sprinted past the Alcorn defense and shot the ball low into the left corner of the net.

UAPB continued to pressure Alcorn with many shots on goal but the Lady Lions could not find the back of the net until the 30th minute. Sophomore Charade Davis attacked the net on a corner kick from freshman Britney Boler. Davis was able to get her foot on the ball and put it past the Lady Braves goalkeeper Amada Davison. This was Davis' third goal of the season.

At the 35th minute junior defender Erika Forbes would begin her most spectacular scoring drive as a UAPB soccer player. Forbes would score her first goal of the game when Charade Davis found the foot of freshman Olivia Wood. Wood connected with Forbes who finished her shot on goal.

At the 65th minute, Nicole Parks-Powell sent a ball wide to Erika Forbes who beat the Alcorn defender and finished for her second goal of the game. But Forbes was only half way done with scoring. At the 72nd minute, junior defender Emma Johnson sent a ball wide to Forbes who again beat the Alcorn defender 1 v1 and finished a left foot shot for her third goal of the game.

Just one minute later at the 73rd minute, senior forward Daphnee Cadet scored off quick one-touch passing between Silvia Fuentes and Rachel Harker. Harker settled the ball for Cadet to make the one-touch strike on goal.

UAPB would end their crusade on-goal at the 77th minute. Rachel Harker and Silvia Fuentes were once again involved in the play by setting up Forbes for her record-making fourth goal of the game. This was Erika Forbes first multi-goal game of her career at UAPB.

The Lady Lions would finish the game with a dominating twenty-five shots on goal to the Lady Braves' two. Lady Lion goalkeeper Bre-Ann Laypoole records her fourth shutout of the season and leads the SWAC goalkeepers in shutouts. Laypoole made one save in today's game.

“Today was a good win for us. It is great to see goals coming from different players, like Erika Forbes and Charade Davis. I think the Erika played her best game today and I am very proud of her for scoring those four goals. I was also very proud of the players that came off the bench. In the first half the bench outscored the starters 2-1. That is very encouraging to know going into the last week of conference play. I feel that our team is becoming stronger everyday,” said Coach Mazza.

The Lady Lions play again Friday, October 29th at home versus the Lady Tigers of Grambling State at 3PM.
