The McGehee Owls (boys) and the DeWitt Dragonettes (girls) delivered standout performances at the junior high district championship held in McGehee, each capturing team titles in their respective division. In the girls division, McGehee finished as runner-up, followed by West Helena in third, Dumas in fourth, and Lakeside-Lake Village in fifth. On the boys' side, West Helena claimed second place, with Dumas finishing third, Drew Central fourth, and DeWitt fifth.
Leading the way for the Dragonettes was high point winner Ashley Fisher, who dominated the sprints by winning the 100m, 200m, and began the meet with a high jump and long jump victory. In the boys' division, Dumas standout Chaysen Gordon earned high-point honors with victories in the 100m, 200m, and long jump.
West Helena placed second in the boys division with Dumas third, Drew Central fourth, and DeWitt fifth. Pacing the Dragonettes was high point winner Ashley Fisheer, who won the 100m, 200m, and high jump. The boys' high point winner was Chaysen Gordon of Dumas, winning the 100m, 200m, and long jump.
Several notable performances highlighted the meet. Chaysen Gordon of Dumas sprinted to victory in the 100m in a third-best 3A time of 11.45. Gordon also set the standard in the 200m, clocking 23.62, another third-best 3A time.
Takyriven Lattimore of McGehee shone in the 110mH, winning the event in 16.92, the second-best 3A time in the state.
In the field events, Briston Procell of McGehee tossed the discus 133.03, good enough to win and also record the third best in 3A.
The boys' 100 x 4 relay team of McGehee was blazing fast, clocking a 3A leading time of 46.20.
