6th Annual KYtrackXC.com Indoor Awards

 

KYtrackXC.com is proud to announce the winners of the KYtrackXC.com Indoor Awards.  I know the Indoor Season ended in March, but these are better late than never.

 

Girls Sprinter of the Season – Alisha Adair (Western Hills)

For the second year in a row, Adair has been crowned the Indoor Sprinter of the Season.  She showed she was the best in Kentucky by first winning the 60m Dash and 200m Dash at the Wildcat Classic in January.  She then took on the best in the nation at the UK High School Invitational finishing 14th overall in the 200m Dash with a time of 25.95.  She finished up her indoor season with a 7.44 to win the 55m Dash at the Class AA Mason-Dixon Games Championship.  This season she set new best times in the 55m and 60m Dashes.

 

Girls Distance Runner of the Season – Ann Eason (Sayre)

Eason, an Eastern Kentucky signee clearly established herself as the best female distance runner in Kentucky this winter.  She dominated every race she ran in Kentucky and even in a trip to Ohio.  She won the Two Mile Run at the Wildcat Classic with an 11:34 and then went on to run 11:09 for fourth place at the UK High School Invitational.  She capped off her season trying out the 5K on the track for the first time traveling to New York for New Balance Indoor Nationals.  She finished 18th overall running a 17:53 in the process.

 

Girls Field Event Athlete of the Season – Megan Zimich (Ballard)

Zimlich, a University of Arkansas signee took her vaulting to a whole new height this winter.  She vaulted 10-00 at the Kentucky State Track Meet last June to finish second overall in Class AAA.  She started her 2011 indoor season with a vault of 11-02 in December.  She then hit 11-06 in Ohio and Nevada.  She finished 3rd with a mark of 11-00 at the UK High School Invitational.  She was consistently over 11-00 all winter long.

 

Boys Sprinter of the Season – John Giddens (Male)

Giddens, a senior showed he was the best in Kentucky with the first big meet of the indoor season , the Wildcat Classic.  He won the 60 Meter Dash with a 7.06 and the 200 Meter Dash with a 22.70 over several of the better sprinters in the state.  He then went on to qualify for the finals of the ultra competitive UK High School Invitational 60 Meter Dash running a best time of 7.05.  He finished 8th overall in the 60 Meter Dash and 22.64 for the 200m Dash.  He was a member of the 4x200 Meter Relay that won the Class AAA Meet at the Mason-Dixon Games.

 

Boys Distance Runner of the Season – Andrew Stewart (North Hardin)

Stewart, a University of Louisville signee dominated distance running in Kentucky this past winter.  He had possibly the greatest day of indoor distance racing in Kentucky history; it is the best over the last six years no doubt.  At the Western Indiana High School Invitational in February, he ran a 1:55 leg in the 3200m Relay, 4:19.02 in the 1600m, 1:55.84 for the 800m, and finished it off with a win in the 3200m with a 9:55.11.  Three of those four race were wins on the day.  He also won the 800m Run at the Arkansas High School Invitational.  He was the 1500m Champion at the Mason-Dixon Games with a 4:04.  He was also a member of the winning 4x4 and 4x8 teams as well. 

 

Boys Field Event Athlete of the Season – Michael Patterson (Male)

 

Patterson, a senior at Male jumped over the competition this past winter earning the honor as the top field event performer in Kentucky.  He specializes in the Triple Jump and jumped a best at the time of 47-00.50 to win the Class AAA Mason-Dixon Games in March.  He was also second at the UK High School Invitational over some of the best jumpers in the southeast.  He was went over the 20 foot mark at the UK meet with a mark of 20-01.
