ASU?s L?Heureux Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team

JONESBORO, Ark. (6/2/11) - Arkansas State senior Dawn L'Heureux has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VI Track & Field women's second team, released Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

L'Heureux, a distance runner from Springdale (Ark.), is one of just 25 players named to the teams, which are made up of student-athletes from Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi and New Mexico.

"Dawn has been a model in the classroom," said ASU head coach Lon Badeaux.  "She has always done the right thing and has been a straight-A student.  When she came to ASU, she wasn't considered the greatest athlete, but she has gotten better and better, and has become one of the best distance runners in the Sun Belt Conference because of her work ethic."

An Exercise Science major at ASU, L'Heureux holds a 3.97 grade point average.  She set three personal records during the 2011 indoor season, and four more during the outdoor season.  L'Heureux ran the fifth-fastest time in school history to finish fifth in the 800-meter run at this year's SBC Outdoor Championships, then ran the fifth-fastest time in school history in the 1,500-meters later that same day to finish fifth in that race as well.  She closed out her career owning three of the top four times in A-State history in the outdoor 1,500-meters.

To be nominated for Academic All-Region honors, student-athletes must maintain at least a cumulative 3.3 GPA and be at least a sophomore both academically and in athletic eligibility.
