Ebenja, Zaborowska Compete Friday and Saturday at Indoor Nationals

MANKATO, Minn. – Senior Cathy Ebenja and freshman Ewa Zaborowska, members of the Harding women's indoor track and field team, will compete Friday and Saturday at the 2012 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field National Championships at Myers Field House. Minnesota State University, Mankato is the host.

Ebenja, a native of Little Rock, Ark., qualified for the national meet in the 60-meter dash. Her fastest time of the indoor season, 7.61 seconds, came on Feb. 10 at the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Allendale, Mich.

Ebenja's qualifying time was the 11th-fastest of the 14 competitors invited to compete in the 60 meters. She will race in lane five of the first of two preliminary heats Friday at 5:20 p.m. The winners of the two preliminary heats and the next six fastest times qualify for the finals Saturday at 4:45 p.m.

Ebenja is making her second appearance at nationals in the 60-meter dash. Last season Ebenja placed 14th in the preliminaries in Albuquerque, N.M., with a time of 7.74 seconds.

The top eight finishers in each event receive All-America honors. Harding has had two All-America recipients in the 55-meter dash, the predecessor of the current 60-meter dash. Bumiegha Tombiri was All-America in 1997, and Calister Uba won the NAIA national championship in the 55-meters in 1998.

Zaborowska, a native of Wejherowo, Poland, will compete in the 800 meters after qualifying with a time of 2:11.48 at Grand Valley State. Her time was the fifth-fastest of the 13 competitors in the event.

Zaborowska will run in lane seven in the first of two heats Friday at 5:50 p.m. The top two finishers in each heat and the next five fastest times will qualify for Saturday's final at 5 p.m.

Harding has only had two All-America honors in the indoor 800 meters, both from Hanna Haavikko in 2001 and 2002.

More than 500 participants from NCAA Division II institutions around the country are expected to visit Mankato for the event. Live video will be streamed free of charge on ncaasports.com.
