Stewart, Lively Earn Victories at UCA Open

CONWAY, Ark. – Harding senior Milton Stewart and sophomore Taylor Lively both turned in event victories for the Bison outdoor track and field team at the UCA Open.
 
Stewart, a native of Memphis, Tenn., defeated 25 other competitors in the 400 meters, finishing in 48.11 seconds. It was only the second time Stewart ever competed in the 400 meters and first since finishing 35th in 50.27 at Ole Miss in 2009. The victory was the third event win in Stewart's career. The other two came in the 200 meters, including a victory at the UCA Open in 2011.
 
Lively, a native of Lake Dallas, Texas, won his second straight 1,500-meter race. He outran 16 other runners and finished with a personal-best time of 3:57.94. Lively also won the 1,500 meters at Harding on April 7.
 
Senior Philip Biwott ran the fastest 5,000-meter time this season by a Harding runner. He placed second of 26 competitors in 14:51.55. Senior Brad Furlong's 56.90 in the 400-meter hurdles was the best time this season in that event. Sophomore Josh Winslager cleared 14 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault, his best mark this season.
 
Several Harding runners recorded personal-best times in their events. They including Landon Belcher (400 meters, 48.64), Eric Wilson (800 meters, 1:58.43), Mathew Cumpian (5,000 meters, 15:53.84), Logan Green (5,000 meters, 16:00.45), Matt Sherk (5,000 meters, 16:29.58), Blake Lawson (400-meter hurdles, 1:01.71), and Connor Merry (pole vault, 12-0).
 
Harding runs again next weekend at the Red Wolf Open in Jonesboro, Ark.
