ATLANTA – On day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational, Harding track and field had six more athletes hoping to either improve on their previous best times or qualify for the Division II national meet later this month in Colorado.
The most successful of Harding's athletes Saturday was freshman
Ewa Zaborowska, who ran a personal-best 2 minutes, 10.36 seconds in the 800 meters. Zaborowska was ranked eighth in Division II in the 800 meters prior to the meet. Her improved time nearly guarantees an invitation to the Division II national meet.
Sophomore
Kristen Celsor tied her own school record in the high jump at 5 feet, 7.25 inches. She is currently 19th and on the bubble to receive a bid to nationals.
Senior
Milton Stewart and sophomore
Landon Belcher both competed in the 400 meters but did not reach the Division II provisional standard of 48.00 seconds. Stewart ran 48.84, and Belcher ran 49.44.
Junior
Tiffany Chambers did not improve on her season-best pole vault mark of 12 feet. Chambers, who is ranked 21st in Division II in the pole vault, had a vault of 11 feet, 1 inch Saturday.
Harding men's 4x400-meter relay team ran in the last race of the day. The team of
Kory Howard, Belcher,
Justin Durham, and Stewart placed eighth of 16 teams in 3:14.41, their second-fastest time of the season. The time ranks 45th in Division II and likely not fast enough for an invitation to nationals.
The field for the Division II Outdoor National Championships will be announced by the NCAA on May 21. The meet is May 24-26 at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl in Pueblo, Colo.
