Her parents were the meet directors, but Madeleine Reed of Marcus High School put on a show herself in being able to pull away from a stiff challenge throughout much of the race from Flower Mound's Rebecca Jacobson (2nd, 18:25) to win the Marcus I Invitational in 18:15. It was Reed's fastest time in cross country over the past two seasons after finishing 8th in the Texas 5A state race last November as a sophomore.
