There were some complications and confusion in the JV Boys race at the Olathe Twilight, but the Bentonville JV boys befuddled the Kansas fans even more by the way they ran.

First of all, there was a false start call back, but not the entire field stopped or turned around. There were 98 boys who completed the race, which was about 2/3 of the field.

That made it easier for Bentonville to do what they did.

What they did was run a perfect score, by having their top five scoring runners finish 1-5. That was just half of what they accomplished in that race. Not only did their top five do what they did, but they actually went 1-7 and then added the ninth and tenth place finisher behind that.

This shows that Bentonville is ready to graduate more of some of their top guys and have the good to restock the shelves with boys ready for their varsity level opportunities.

So, why I do think this race might have looked a little different if there wasn't an issue at the start of the race, if that did happen Bentonville might have performed even better if there were some front runners who did not race against them.

Despite that, what should also be observed beyond the perfect score and nine in the top ten is the team average and the split.

The JV boys ran a 16:42 average.

It was senior Maddox Beasley who waits in the wings to be inserted on the varsity team if his name gets called that came away with the win.

Beasley ran 16:34 to lead the way followed by four sophomores and three juniors behind him. Seven of the Tigers all ran under 17-minutes to net the average.

Perhaps most impressively is the 12-second spread. Maddox was eight seconds ahead of Elijah Drain who was second overall, but Drain and the number three (Abel Garcia), four (Daniel Furlano), and five runner (Asher Heiner) were all within four seconds of one another.

Bentonville has a shot at eight straight state titles this year, but next year also looks like they'll have a shot to contend again.
