One of Arkansas' best distance runners is looking for a new home.
On Thursday night, Starlyn Edwards announced via social media that she is re-opening her recruitment process: "After careful consideration, due to a coaching change, I have decided to decommit from UALR…"
Edwards added "This was not an easy decision, but I believe it is the right choice for my future athletically. I would like to thank UALR for everything during this recruiting process and now allowing me to start over so I have the ability to explore my options and make the best choice for my future from where I am now."
Edwards announced her commitment to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock on September 27th and instantly became the Trojans top distance commitment. Of the five girls distance recruits that signed with UALR on November 15th, Edwards has run the fastest times in the 1,600m and 3,200m.
Edwards is coming off the best cross country season of her career, which culminated in a 3rd place finish at the 5A State Championships. The senior from Paragould set a new personal best in the 5K, running a 18:46.60 at the Frank Horton Night Classic in Memphis, Tennessee, dropping 68 seconds from her fastest time in 2023. Edwards finished the season with the 15th fastest time in Arkansas.
Last spring, Edwards showcased her dominance on the track by capturing a pair of state titles in the 1,600m and 3,200m at the 5A state meet. The junior recorded the fastest times in the 800m, 1,600m, and 3,200m last track season among all Arkansas athletes in the Class of 2025.
With one track season looming, the superstar senior now remains without a home for next fall and is sure to be one of the state's most highly sought after talents.
