It was an exciting third day of action across the Natural State, with athletes taking their talents to another level as the upcoming state championships loom.
With so much action still to come, we don't have very much time, so let's jump right into it and take a look at some of the standout performances from Day 3 of the Arkansas HS Conference Championships!
CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP HUB
Region 1A- 8
He's been one of 1A's best all season, and he showed why on Wednesday.
Kaiden McHenry-Jones picked up wins the 100m, 200m, 110m hurdles, furthering his case as one of the state's most dominant sprinters. The senior from Strong enters next week's state championship as a heavy favorite to win multiple state titles.
Kalee Hanson had a career day, winning the 400m dash, along with the 800m and long jump events. Like McHenry-Jones, the junior from Emerson enters next week as one of 1A's best and will find herself in the mix no matter what events she chooses to compete in.
Region 2A-1
It was a historic day for the boys from Ozark Catholic.
Not only did the team pick up victories in all four relay events, but the boys dominated the competition en route to their first-ever 2A conference championship, scoring 226 points to second place's 109.5.
Like the boys, the girls from Ozark Catholic won all four relays and won their first-ever 2A conference title as well, scoring 239 points to second place's 235. The girls were led by Clare Pohlmeier, a multi-event winner who will be searching for her second state championship next week.
Region 2A-3
There was a lot of great competition at this year's Region 2A-3 conference championship championship, with back-and-forth action all over the track.
Rylee Wilburn scored the first two wins of her high school career last night, crossing the line first in the 100m, while also setting a new personal best in the 400m.
Caden Crawford won the 100m dash and high jump, while also scoring 8 points and finishing 2nd in the 200m dash.
Region 3A-2
Mountain Home High School hosted yesterday's 3A-2 conference meet meet and saw a plethora of standout performances throughout the event.
Kolby Hurst won the high jump and triple jump events while also anchoring the championship-winning 4x200m relay team from Flippin. A senior, the top-ranked high jumper in 3A enters his final state meet, looking to end his high school career in storybook fashion.
Erin Akins enjoyed the best day she's had all season, winning the 800m, 1,600m, and high jump, giving Mountain View 30 of their 112 total points. Erin's older sister Emma picked up another 10 points for the Yellow Jackets by winning the 3,200m later in the day.
Region 4A-8
One of 4A's best jumpers was back in action on Wednesday and picked up right where he left off. Quarterion Johnson, the junior from Stuttgart, won the triple jump and high jump competitions, while also finishing 2nd in the 100m and 200m dash events. Entering next week's state meet, Jackson ranks 3rd in 4A in the triple jump.
Jordin Temple was one of yesterday's biggest winners, winning the 100m hurdles, triple jump, and long jump. The junior from Crossett is ranked 1st in 4A in the long jump and 3rd in the triple jump, making her one of the contenders to win multiple state titles next week in Heber Springs.
