We've been waiting a few years to say this: Gressa Hoyord is a state champion.
While the senior sprint star from Bentonville has been one of the state's best sprinters for a few years now, an individual state title has always eluded Hoyord - until Thursday night.
Yesterday at the 6A State Championships in Centerton, Hoyord captured a pair of individual state championships, crossing the line first in the 100m and 200m dash events, setting two brand new personal bests and a meet record in the 200m.
Hoyord would add the finishing touches, bringing home the win and anchoring the state championship-winning 4x100m and 4x200m relay teams.
In her final regular season race as a Tiger, Hoyord contributed 40 points to Bentonville's total score, which was more than enough to secure the team's 3rd straight track and field state championship. The girls of Bentonville have now won six of the last seven 6A team titles.
Congratulations Gressa and to the entire Bentonville girls team!
