22nd Annual Chile Pepper Festival

 
HIGHLIGHTS:  The Saratoga Springs girls cross country team made its first trip to the state of Arkansas a memorable one, winning both high school races at the 22nd annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival Saturday afternoon on the campus of the University of Arkansas.

Running on a hot day at the home course for one of elite college running programs, the Blue Streaks won the Senior High School Girls Invitational championship race with 37 team points and five runners among the top 15 finishers, and then later in the day, captured the Senior High School Girls Open race by accumulating just 34 team points.  FULL ARTICLE HERE

Bob Greene/Newark Valley Invitational

 
Highlights:  Corning boys over Maine-Endwell 30-41.
 
Newark Valley edges Watkins Glen 50-67 in small school boys race as Bruce Cameron of Lansing wins title in 16:28.
 
Maine-Endwell girls take large school race 46-48 over Union-Endicott.  Tully girls dominate small school race.  Jenna Cupp of Newark Valley has fastest time of the day with 19:51 win.
 
 
 
 
 
 

Brown Invitational

 
Highlights: WARWICK, RI — Alex Gallo knew it was going to be his last big invitational before the upcoming Class and State Championships, his last chance to really test himself before the biggest meets of the season.

“So I had to make sure I had a good race today,” he said at the 28th annual Brown University High School Cross Country Invitational, held Saturday at Goddard Memorial State Park.  FULL ARTICLE

Bulldog Stampede XC Invite

Highlights: East Aurora boys win another meet 37-72 over Wayne.  Alden's Nick Orlowski takes title in 16:21.  East Aurora girls continue to look very good as Marta McLoughlin and Megan Hulton go 1-2 to lead team to 25 -48 over a very good Canandaigua team.

Burnt Hills Invitational

 

HIGHLIGHTS:  Steve Arnett came away quite pleased with his Arlington High School cross country runners on Saturday.

The coach watched his boys team take first place and his girls team place fifth at the Burnt Hills Invitational at Saratoga Springs State Park.

The Arlington boys finished with 76 points with Burnt Hills taking second with 99. Eddie Merenda led the Admirals by finishing second overall with a time of 15:19 on the 3.05-mile course. Sibby Hansen and Chris Wise were seventh and 11th, respectively.

“That was an outstanding win against outstanding competition and against people running on their home course,’’ Arnett said.  FULL ARTICLE HERE

 

Ubriaco powers into first at Burnt Hills

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- Lining up on the starting line against Burnt Hills senior Otis Ubriaco is challenging. Facing the cross country star when he has a sense of urgency is even worse.

As a member of the host school, Ubriaco was hyped for the Burnt Hills Invitational on Saturday at Saratoga Spa State Park, but that he had a plane to catch 90 minutes following the race made it even more important that he cross the finish line in a hurry.  FULL ARTICLE HERE

CHSAA Soph Champs

HIGHLIGHTS:  Molly wins BQ soph boys title, Farrell takes NY sectional soph boys crown.

Dunkirk Invitational

 
Highlights: The Marauders hosted their ninth annual Dunkirk Invitational at Point Gratiot on the shores of Lake Erie Saturday and the host team's Alex Gonzales won the boys' race while Fredonia's Lauren Reyda won the girls' race. Fredonia's boys and girls won the meet.

"It was another very nice race for him," Dunkirk coach Kurt Warmbrodt said, noting that it was the third year in a row Gonzales has won the Dunkirk Invitational. "That was kind of a motivator."  FULL ARTICLE HERE
 

Loyal Greenman Invitational

HIGHLIGHTS:  BINGHAMTON -- Susquehanna Valley's Sydney Williams successfully defended her girls individual title Saturday at the Loyal Greenman Invitational cross country meet at Ely Park Golf Course.

Williams completed the 2.85-mile course in 18 minutes, 33 seconds, comfortably finishing ahead of Oneonta's Beth Gollin, who finished in 19 minutes.

Rochester Mercy successfully defended its team title, edging Oneonta and Vestal. Mercy finished with 49 points. Oneonta was two points back and Vestal had 53.  FULL ARTICLE

HIGHLIGHTS:  St. Francis Prep beats Molloy on 6th girl tie breaker. Xaverian edges Kellenberg bopys 50-52.

Nassau Coaches Invitational

HIGHLIGHTS:   Ryan Rausch of Oceanside takes title in 16:56 to lead team to victory 73-80 over Suffern.  Krisinina Coiro wins in 20:25.  Great Neck North takes titles over Freeport 83-106.

New Hartford Invitational

New Hartford cross-country star glad he switched sports

Aaron Tompkins didn’t want to disappoint his friends.

Up until three years ago, Tompkins played soccer in the fall. But several of his friends ran cross-country for the New Hartford Spartans. After some gentle persuasion, Tompkins decided to switch sports his sophomore year.
 

“I had more friends on the cross-country team than in soccer,” Tompkins said. “They were always saying, ‘Come on, come out for cross-country and run with us.’ They convinced me to do it.”

NYC XC Carnival

HIGHLIGHTS:   Haddonfield, NJ looks awesome with 37-51 win over Holy Ghost, PA with 13:13 average.  St. Anthony's is 3rd with 13:39 average.  Notre Dame (Staten Island) girls win 31-61 over Sacred Heart Academy (Long Island).

Penn State National Invitational

 

Highlights:  The Syracuse University cross country teams are doing just what they planned this season. The men and women are starting to turn in some of their best performances with just two week to go until the BIG EAST Championship. The men's team finished first at the Penn State National meet today, while the women finished on the heels of the nation's top team in Villanova.   FULL ARTICLE HERE

PSAL Frosh/Soph Borough Champs

HIGHLIGHTS:  Stuyvesant, Hunter, MSIT, Bronx Science, Francis Lewis, Townsend Harris, Midwood, and Medgars Evers wins boys titles.

Port Richmond, Bronx Science, Midwood, Tottenville, Stuyvesant, and Townsend Harris win girls crowns.

Weedsport Invitational

HIGHLIGHTS:  Finishing 1-2-3, Greg Bader, Jack Gugel and Steve Slonosky led the Jordan-Elbridge boys to a first-place finish, with the day's lowest score of 27 points, in the Varsity Two race. Pacesetter Bader finished in 16:45.1.

In the Varsity One race, Hannibal took first place with 32 points, but Auburn's Pat Lattimore posted the day's best time in 16:34.7. Auburn finished second with 57 points.

In the girls races, Ameene Dye (19:54.7) led her Jamesville-DeWitt team to the Varsity One team crown (38 points). J-E (40 points) took the Varsity Two race. ARTICLE HERE
