Hattie Ray Beshears Runs Arkansas #1 All-Time in 5K; 16:26

This weekend in Eugene, Oregon Hattie Ray Beshears ran the fastest 5K in Arkansas history. Beshears finished second in the 5000 meters at the Nike Outdoor Nationals with a time of 16:26.33.

Delaney Reuter won the event with a time of 16:20.32.

Beshears, who won the Arkansas 6A State Outdoor Meet last month with a time of 10:14.40, is going into her senior year at Springdale's Har-Ber High School.

The runner-up finish did not come easy for Beshears, who battled with Morgan Delaney in the closing minutes of the race. However, Delaney could not match the fitness or grit of Beshears.

It's the second runner-up finish and second personal record this post season for Beshears, who finished second in the mile at the RunningLane Track Championships in Huntsville, Alabama late last month. 

In that meet, Beshears ran a 4:45.35, finishing second to Tennessee's Addy Cotter in the Division 2 girls 1600 meters.
