AUSTIN, Texas - Only two members of the Southeastern Louisiana men's and women's track and field teams competed in the first day of the prestigious four-day Texas Relays in Austin, but the Lions made the most of it as freshman distance runner Henry Rop took first place in the 5000 m run and junior distance runner Everlyn Matonyei narrowly missed out on a top-10 finish in a crowded field in the women's 5K as day one of the Texas Relays came to a close late Wedndesday night.

BATON ROUGE - Senior thrower Teremine White took first in the discus, and hit an NCAA Regional Qualifying mark, with a throw of 54.85 m (179 ft, 11 in) and had four throws over 17.0 m in the shot put, capping his day with a 17.86 toss in the shot put to claim second place at the Tiger Relays on Sunday.

FRISCO, TEXAS - Southeastern Louisiana freshman jumper Michael Rheams wasted no time making his presence felt in his first collegiate outdoor meet. Rheams had a big weekend at the NSU Relays at Northwestern State, hit ting a pair of NCAA Provisional Qualifying marks claiming first in the triple jump and second in the long jump in the opening event of the 2008 outdoor season. Officials around the Southland Conference took notice on Tuesday, making Rheams the first Conference Athlete of the Week for the outdoor season. The Award is the first of his career.

BATON ROUGE - Southeastern Louisiana University senior thrower Teremine White set a new school mark in the men\'s shot put with a throw of 17.03 m (55 ft. 10.5 in) as he finished second to LSU\'s Ricky Jean Francois at the 2008 LSU Last Chance Meet. White\'s throw was beat the previous record of 55 ft. 9.75 in set by Ruben Stephens in 2007.

At 6 ft., 250 lbs., Adonson Shallow is not as physically imposing as most world-class throwers, but the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines native boasts an impressive resume that includes: 2007 junior college athlete of the year honors, a top-15 finish in the discus at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and junior and senior Saint Vincent and the Grenadines national records in the shot and discus.
