Miller (Katy, Texas) ran the 1,200-meters in 2:54.11 before exchanging with the second leg, Fortson (Fort Worth, Texas), who rounded the track twice in 46.90 for the 400-meter segment. That's the longest throw in the world in almost twenty years. World Record holder Randy Barnes threw 74-4 1/4(22.66) and East Germany's Ulf Timmermann 73-11 3/4(22.55) in 1989. Former Arkansas All-American Christin Wurth-Thomas, running on her home track. won the women's mile in 4:27.18 to move ahead of Vicki Huber (4:28.31) into the #3 spot on the all-time U.S. peerformers' list, trailing only Mary Slaney(4:20,5) and Regina Jacobs(4:21.79).The meet will be shown today on ESPN from 5-7pm (Check your local listings).
NEW ORLEANS - Freshman Laurie Dalrymple ran a season-best time in the 3,000-meter run, and sophomore Nicolette Taku placed 10th in the triple jump to lead the Tulane University women's track and field team Saturday at their respective meets - the Iowa State Classic and the Tyson Invitational.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Senior Nadia Alexander followed Al Fullwood's lead from yesterday by breaking the school record in the shot put with a throw of 53 feet, 7.50 inches for a collegiate fourth-place finish and the top mark in the conference.
