With Magazine dropping from 2A, Class 1A will be the only classification that features two defending state champions which is something that very rarely happens. Last season's 1A state champion Missy Wilson is set to defend her state title against 2022 2A state champion Elizabeth Merritt later this season. Each individual's journey to the state meet will be a story that develops throughout the season.
Ozark Catholic's departure from Class 1A leaves both individual and team races wide open. Nicholas Wheeler and Peyton Jones are two of the top returners from last season and are early season favorites for November's state championship while Founders Classical Academy, Thaden School, Rural Special, and Kingston all stand a chance in the team race.
