Evan Smith Wins AR Boys Preseason Runner of the Year

Evan Smith has won the Milesplit Arkansas Boys Preseason Runner of the Year poll.

Smith is entering his senior season at Ft. Smith Southside and is coming off a strong outdoor track season. In the 3,200m, the junior finished 12th at the 6A West Conference Championships while running a personal best time of 10:04.24. Smith also won the 1,600m at the James Lemley Quad City Meet, running a personal best time of 4:42.11.

Last fall, Smith competed in 12 races, including the Arkansas vs Oklahoma All Star race, NXR South, and RunningLane and set a personal best at the Van Buren Classic where he finished 4th, running a 16:11.34. Smith also finished 23rd at the 6A cross country state meet last season.

It would appear as if Smith is set to lead a strong Ft. Smith Southside squad with high expectations into the season. Expect Smith to help the Mavericks ascend the rankings in 2024 and compete individually for a podium position as well.

Congratulations Evan!
