It's that time of year again.
As the 2025-2026 academic year quickly approaches, Milesplit Arkansas is excited to feature our rising senior class that has given so much to our wonderful sport and we are excited to feature you on our site!
1) Where are you from and when did you first start running?
I go to Valley View in Jonesboro. I started running in 8th grade.
2) So far in your high school career, what is your most memorable running memory?
My most memorable running memory would have to be running the St. Jude Half Marathon this past year.
3) What has been the most difficult workout you've run during your running career?
It was a 800 specific workout that went 2x600 then 2x400 at goal 800 pace with 200 walk rest. By the end of the workout every person on the team was laying limp on the football field. The wind was brutal and it was extremely cold with heavy clouds over us.
4) Who are some of your greatest competitors you have raced throughout your career?
In the past I've ran in races with James American Horse and Joseph Bariola. That was an indoor meet and needless to say I was lapped multiple times. Currently I love competing against the Jonesboro guys across town.
5) What has been your favorite cross country course or track to race on and why?
I enjoyed the Memphis Twilight course my freshman year in XC then for track I'd say Vanderbilt's indoor track was fun just because it's 300 meters.
6) What were some of the most difficult obstacles that you have faced during your career?
This past cross season I developed pleurisy which made my lungs hurt every time I breathed which isn't the best for running of course. This impacted me pretty heavily towards the end of the season.
7) What will you miss most about high school running?
I'll miss the people for sure, I'm already experiencing that with the seniors that just left being gone from practice. I feel like our team is very close and it will be sad to see everyone go their own ways.
8) What advice would you give to a rising freshman competing in their first high school season in 2024/2025?
Enjoy it for sure, work hard but find joy in that work that you put it. Always try to be the best teammate you can be.
9) Who are some people you would like to thank for your success in high school?
Definitely would like to thank my parents, they out in an absurd amount of energy into helping me with whatever I need. I'd also like to that all of my coaches or anyone that gave me advice on running, especially Coach Shelby has always helped me even when my goals may have seemed absurd.
