Several Arkansas high school athletes set personal records during the week of April 6.
Banks Dawson (Catholic High School) ran 23.00 in the 200 meters at the Don Pierce Lakeside Relays on April 10, improving from his previous best of 25.93 set in March. The sophomore ranks #53 in Arkansas and #6 among sophomores, finishing third in a field of 11 competitors.
Sadie Sterritt (Sheridan) clocked 14.97 in the 100-meter hurdles at the Jerry Roberts Memorial Relays on April 9, breaking from her previous mark of 15.83. The school record performance ranks #5 in the state and #2 among sophomores, with Sterritt placing second among 20 competitors. She also set a personal record in the 300 hurdles with 49.12, improving from 50.63.
Irony Larry (MacArthur Junior High) won the 100 meters in 12.23 at the Jonesboro Junior Invitational on April 6, improving from 12.76. The Class of 2030 runner set a school record and ranks #8 in Arkansas, winning among 26 competitors. Larry also recorded personal bests in the high jump (5-6, from 5-3) and long jump (18-2.75, from 18-0.5) at the same meet.
Kash Thompson (Maumelle) ran 10.98 in the 100 meters at the Jerry Roberts Memorial Relays on April 9, improving from 11.88. The junior's school record time ranks #16 in the state, placing second in a field of 42. Thompson also set a personal record in the 200 meters with 24.36, improving from 25.73.
Julian Cortez (Gurdon) threw 50-1 in the shot put at the Junior Wildcat Relays on April 7, improving from his previous best of 41-1 set in March. The freshman won the event among 26 competitors and leads all Arkansas freshmen while ranking #12 overall in the state.
Tiffany Bedgood (Paragould) ran 12:35.93 in the 3200 meters at the Bearcat Sr. High Relays on April 9, improving from 13:09.24 set in March. The sophomore ranks #43 in Arkansas, finishing second in a field of eight runners.
Kinley Jeffcoat (Van Buren) cleared 11-1 in the pole vault at the Cardinal Relays on April 6, improving from 10-6. The senior's school record vault ranks #6 in the state, winning among four competitors.
