BorderWar Sports has announced that in 2007 they will begin their own version of a high school team cross country championship. Officially endorsed by the AAU and sponsored by JetBlue Airlines (among others), the group will scrap the concept of subjective polls in favor of what many consider the only fair method: regional qualifying meets.

Southwestern Oklahoma State cross country star Rachel Ingram earned her second trip to the NCAA Division II Championships by finishing in second place in the South Central Regional meet Saturday at Pertle Springs Park in Warrensburg, Mo.
Freshman runner David Chirchir placed fifth at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional meet in Warrensburg this morning. His finish qualifies him for the NCAA Division II National meet in Pensacola, Florida on November 18th.

For much of its 33-year history, the Sunfair Invitational has been touted as the Northwest\'s largest single-day high school event. There\'s certainly no doubt of that since over 2,500 runners are expected at Franklin Park on Saturday. In recent years the Northwest influence coming from outside Washington has become more and more with Flathead, Mont., emerging as the meet\'s dominant team in the depth-testing seven-flight scoring format. The Braves are the defending Sunfair boys champs and they won the 2004 girls title. Last year, Thousand Oaks, Calif., edged Flathead for the girls crown. But this year the distant visitors will face a formidable in-state foe in Gig Harbor\'s girls, who rank 13th in the nation and just won a big meet in Boise last week. The Tides won last year\'s state 4A title by a hefty 34 points and they return four of their top five.
Last weeks was just a tease, Looks like Western Washngton XC athletes are wasting no time in setting the record for who is who. Abdi Hassan, Senior from Nathan Hale, Chris Williams, Senior from Gig harbor, Joey Bywater, Junior from Lake Stevens, Miles Unterreiner, Senior from Gig Harbor, all soundly below 15:00 for the 3000 meter Port Angelas Course. The winner, Abdi Hassan posted an impressive 14:31.2 with a good 3 second lead over Chriss WIlliams. If you are at all interested in running this fall, LOOK OUT! Kelsee Payne, Amanda Andrews,Anna Kalbrener, 3 top finishers, one school, Gig Harbor has set the bar for Girls HS XC.
Woodinville\'s Doug Holt edged out Mariner\'s Dak Riek by one second to win the race. Both racers eclipsed the course record previously held by former Wesco runner Jeff Helmer. Doug Holt a Senior from Woodinville seems to throwing the guantlet down early, staking his claim to this year\'s Top Runner Title. a scorching 15:34.2 time edging out Dak Reik, Senior from Mariner by only 1.1 second. For all the drama and excitment of last season this year is stacking up to be better yet.

Four-time state champion Adam Betterton has signed a scholarship agreement to run track at Oklahoma Baptist University, beginning in 2006-07. Betterton, who won the 2005 110 and 300 hurdles at Shawnee High School, joins the tradition-rich Bison track program that has become a national power in those events. Betterton, who also was a part of back-to-back 3200 relay state championship squads, also will compete for a spot on OBU
