Washington and Lee senior Nathan Johnson (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) placed 62nd out of 211 runners at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday morning. This was the second year in a row that Johnson completed at the National Championship meet. Johnson completed the challenging championship course in 26:53.0.
Both Washington & Lee University\'s Lindsay Erickson and Nathan Johnson ran season best times at the NCAA Division III National Championship meet. The race was held at the Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, Wisconsin. Both athletes were competing in their first ever college cross country seasons. Junior Nathan Johnson place 83rd out of 215 runners with a season best time of 25:48 for 8,000 meters. Freshmen Lindsay Erickson also ran a season best time of 23:04 for 6,000 meters to place 84th out of 215 runners. Erickson was also the 9th highest freshmen finisher at NCAA Nationals.

For the fourth time this season Washington & Lee University freshmen Lindsay Erickson was named ODAC Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Gettysburg Invite. Erickson, a freshman from Silver Spring, Md., finished fifth out of 177 competitors at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday, crossing the tape in 23:14.00, helping the Generals to a second-place team finish.
For the third week of the season W&L runners sweep the ODAC Athlete of the Week honors. Freshmen Linsday Erickson and Junior Nathan Johnson were honored for their efforts at this weeks State Meet. This is the second weekly honor for Nathan Johnson and the third honor for Lindsay Erickson.
Both Washington & Lee University Men's and Women's Cross Country teams competed in the annual Virginia Division II / III State Cross Country Meet on the hilly Peakview cross country course in Harrisonburg Virginia. Both teams came away from the meet with the team championship honors. Individually Nathan Johnson won his second race in two weeks.
Washington and Lee athletic director Mike Walsh has announced the appointment of Kris Hoey as head women's cross country coach, associate head coach of track and field, and assistant professor of physical education. Hoey begins her duties immediately.
