After another exciting week of racing, we are here to look back at some of the top meets and performances throughout the Natural State as the postseason nears!
Blazer Relays
Jay Mormon from Valley View High School won the high jump event, setting a massive personal best, jumping 6-8, which is the second-best mark in the state in the event.
Savion Hall from Southside-Batesville was busy on Monday, finishing second in the high jump and long jump events. Hall also won the triple jump event, jumping 45-0w, which was his first win in the event this season.
Gavin McDowell from Jonesboro High School continued his winning ways, picking up his 3rd consecutive win and 5th on the season in the pole vault, vaulting a 14-0. McDowell is ranked 7th in the state in the event.
Donna Douglas from Nettleton High School dominated the throws events, picking up wins in the discus and shot put events. Douglas set a new personal best in the discus, throwing 136-10, while also throwing 43-2 in the shot put. Douglas is currently ranked 1st in the state in both events.
Coca-Cola Relays
Lake Hamilton's Olivia Pielemeier stole the show once again, this time in the 3200m event. The superstar senior clocked in a new Arkansas #1, running 10:35.23 and breaking Maggie Montoya's state record in the event.
Zyron Brock from El Dorado High School picked up a win in the 100m dash while finishing second in the high jump. Brock raced to a new personal best of 12.23 in the sprinting event, while also jumping 5-4 in the high jump, which is also a new personal best in the event. Davin James, Brock's teammate, won the high jump, jumping 5-6.
Allie Quast from Lakeside HS won the pole vault, jumping a new personal best of 11-3 en route to her fourth victory on the season. The freshman also finished 8th in the 300m hurdles and 9th in the 100m hurdles.
El Dorado's DeAndra Burns Jr. continued his hot streak, winning the 100m and 400m dash events. Burns set a new personal best in the 100m, running a 10.60, and remained undefeated in the 400m, running a 49.49. Burns also won the long jump, jumping 22-10.5 en route to his fourth victory in the event this season.
Garrion Curry from Magnolia High School won the 110m hurdle events, marking his fourth consecutive win in the event this year. The senior clocked an impressive 14.62, coming just 0.04 seconds from his personal best.
Rocco Patrick dominated the throwing events, winning the shot put and discus competitions. Patrick set a new personal best in the shot put, throwing 54-6 while throwing 158-4 in the discus. Patrick is currently ranked first in the state in the discus and second in the shot put.
Y Timing HS Running Festival
The Y Timing HS Running Festival featured several incredibly quick distance races on Thursday.
Sam Boyer from Rogers Heritage High School won the quick 1600m and 3200m races. Boyer cruised to a 4:22.82 in the 1600m, while just edging out Har-Ber High School's Dawson Welch in the 3200m. Boyer ran a 9:34.34, while Welch finished just behind, running a 9:36.95.
In another star-studded event, Hudson Betts from Fayetteville High School edged out Hunter Kemp and Colin Kierce, who finished 2nd and 3rd, in the 800m. Betts set a new personal best in the event, running a 1:55.48, to pick up his 5th win on the season.
While distance seemingly stole the show, Solara Koser from Fayetteville kept doing her thing in the 100m hurdles, picking up her fifth win of the season, running a 14.92. Koser remains the Arkansas #1 in the event.
Conway Wampus Cat Invitational
The pole vault produced several great performances on Tuesday. Lance McNew pulled out the victory in the boy's event, jumping 15-0, narrowly defeating Kercher Herring and Quinn Hawkins, who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Mia Fortson won the girl's pole vault, jumping a 10-6.
The 800m was also incredibly competitive. River Hardman continued his stellar season, winning the event and running a 1:54.74. Jones White finished second, running a 1:57.99. Brooklyn Nicholson won the girl's 800m race, dipping just below 2:20 en route to her 3rd win on the season. Nicholson is ranked 5th in the state in the event.
Devyn Steingisser from Bryant High School won the boy's discus event, setting a new personal best in the event, throwing 167-4. Steingisser is now ranked 2nd in the state in the event.
Bryant went on to sweep the discus competitions at this event, as Kylee Branch won the girl's competition, throwing a new personal best of 130-5.
Kirstic Rowland from Conway picked up the win at her home meet in the triple jump. Rowland jumped a 17-4.5 in her first win in the event this season.
Other Notable Performances:
Julian Carter II from Marion High School ran to an Arkansas #1 in the 400m dash this week at the Paul Hoffman-Hurricane Relays. Carter extended his race-winning streak to four, running a new personal best of 48.32.
Trey Haworth from Genoa Central High School had another fantastic week. Just one week after jumping 6-8 in the high jump, Haworth set another personal best in the event at the RM Bell Relays, jumping 6-9 for his fourth straight win of the season. Haworth remains ranked 1st in the state in the event.
