The stage is set at Oaklawn Park for what could be one of the most competitive and historic 6A girls' individual races in recent memory. With ideal race-day conditions expected, sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60s, Arkansas' top female harriers are primed to deliver fast times and fierce competition.
All eyes will be on Lilly Beshears of Rogers, who returns as the defending state champion and the clear favorite after an extraordinary senior season. Beshears comes in with a scorching personal best of 16:47.70, the fastest time in the state this year - and an undefeated record against in-state competition. She was dominant at high-profile meets like Southlake and the Chile Pepper Festival and appears poised to become a back-to-back 6A champion.
But Beshears won't be without challengers. One of the fastest-rising stars in the classification is Lauren Thompson of Jonesboro. The junior placed fifth at last year's state meet and has taken a significant leap this season, dropping a 17:24.00 at the conference championships - a time that makes her the second-fastest runner in 6A entering the state meet. Meanwhile, Hattie Ray Beshears, a sophomore from Har-Ber and Lilly's younger sister, has emerged as a major podium threat, clocking 17:33.40 and finishing fourth at the prestigious Chile Pepper Festival. Don't overlook Flannery O'Daniel of Bentonville either; the freshman phenom has steadily risen all season, highlighted by her 17:35.40 performance, making her a top-four contender in her state debut.
The field is deep beyond the front pack. Rogers teammate Samantha Schmersahl is a returning all-state performer who finished second last year and holds a season best of 17:46.70. Bentonville's supporting trio, Claire Lorimer, Madysen Hantuba, and Everly O'Daniel, all bring sub-18:20 credentials and could crowd the top ten. Rogers Heritage's Nora Wise (18:02.50), a top-five finisher last year as a freshman, has the experience and range to contend again.
Additional names to watch include Elizabeth Scudder and Anna Scudder of Rogers, Kayla Eggers, Caitlin Paul of Bentonville West, and Virginia Milwee of Mount St. Mary, who placed third a year ago and continues to run consistently mid-18s.
In total, over a dozen girls in the field have broken 19 minutes this fall, and with nearly every top finisher from last year returning, the 2025 individual race has the potential to be one of the most tightly packed and dramatic finishes we've seen in 6A in years. It's a deep, experienced, and fast field, and it'll take an all-time performance to walk away with the win.

2025 Arkansas 6A Girls State Cross Country Championship - Team Race Preview
The battle for the 2025 6A girls team title at Oaklawn Park looks to be a familiar one, with Rogers and Bentonville once again poised to clash for supremacy in one of the deepest team fields Arkansas has ever seen. Rogers, the back-to-back defending champions, return all five scorers from last year's state title squad and enter the race as strong favorites. With Lilly Beshears, the top individual in the state, leading the charge, the Lady Mounties boast an incredible 1-5 average of 17:55 and a 1-5 split of just 1:45. Their scoring five also includes Samantha Schmersahl, Elizabeth and Anna Scudder, and Kayla Eggers, all sub-18:35 runners, giving Rogers the kind of front-loaded firepower that's nearly impossible to match.
Still, Bentonville High School isn't backing down. They, too, return their entire varsity lineup from last year's runner-up finish and have closed the gap this season, running to a tight 1-5 spread of just 1:03, the best among all top teams. Freshman standout Flannery O'Daniel (17:35.40) leads a deep squad that also includes Claire Lorimer, Madysen Hantuba, Everly O'Daniel, and Mya Hurley, all with PRs in the 18:11-18:39 range. Bentonville's low stick isn't quite as low as Rogers', but their pack strength and time compression could make this race razor-close if Rogers falters.
Bentonville West sits third in the statistical team rankings, led by Caitlin Paul, Cameron Brown, and Isabelle Hunter, who each bring sub-18:45 credentials. However, a drop in depth beyond their top three (with a fifth runner near 20:00) could make it difficult for the Wolverines to upset the two Northwest Arkansas juggernauts. If they can tighten their split, though, a podium finish is well within reach.
Looking to round out the top five are Fayetteville, Cabot, and Mount St. Mary Academy. Fayetteville boasts excellent pack running with a mere 42-second spread between their top five, led by Alice Travis and Helen Hesselgren, while Cabot leans on the strength of Cady Masters and Savannah Fisher. Mount St. Mary may not have the depth to contend for a top-three spot, but they feature two strong frontrunners in Allie Steliga and Virginia Milwee, the latter of whom was third at state last year.
Ultimately, the team race will hinge on two questions: can Rogers' stars hold their positions up front, and can Bentonville's tighter pack make up the points gap with superior compression? With favorable conditions and a deep, experienced field, the 2025 6A girls team title could come down to the wire.
