Rogers and Bentonville girls race it out at the 2024 AAA 6A girls state championships
Individual Race Recap
The 2025 Arkansas 6A Girls State Championship once again belonged to Rogers' superstar senior Lilly Beshears, who completed one of the most dominant careers in state history with a wire-to-wire victory at Oaklawn Park. Beshears, who entered as the reigning champion and undefeated against Arkansas competition, controlled the race from the gun. Running with poise and confidence, she surged to the front early and never looked back, breaking the tape in 17:29.45, nearly 22 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Her time, though slightly slower than her season-best 16:47, was more than enough to secure her second consecutive 6A individual state title and cement her status among the state's all-time greats.
Behind her, a new wave of stars emerged. Freshman sensation Flannery O'Daniel of Bentonville lived up to the hype, finishing second in 17:51.34, a phenomenal debut on the state stage and a clear sign of things to come for the Lady Tigers. Not far behind was another rising name with a familiar last name: sophomore Hattie Ray Beshears of Har-Ber, who clocked 18:00.70 for third place, joining her older sister on the podium and adding another family milestone to Arkansas cross country lore.
Lauren Thompson of Jonesboro, who placed fifth a year ago, made a strong leap forward, finishing fourth in 18:25.23, while Nora Wise of Rogers Heritage rounded out the top five in 18:37.23, once again proving her consistency as one of the state's elite. The remainder of the top 10 featured a deep cast from the Northwest Arkansas powerhouses, Bentonville's Madysen Hantuba (18:42) and Everly O'Daniel (18:58), Rogers' Samantha Schmersahl (18:51) and Elizabeth Scudder (19:04), and Cabot's Cady Masters (19:10).
Altogether, six of the top ten hailed from Rogers or Bentonville, a testament to the continued dominance of Northwest Arkansas in girls' distance running. The field was deep and talented, but this was, once again, the Lilly Beshears show, a fitting finale to a legendary high school career.

Team Race Recap
For the past two years, the Arkansas 6A girls' title has gone through Rogers High School, but in 2025, the balance of power finally shifted back to Bentonville High School reclaimed its spot atop the state podium with a close team victory, scoring 37 points to Rogers' 44. The two programs have shared control of the classification throughout the decade, and this year's showdown lived up to its billing as one of the most competitive team battles in recent memory.
Bentonville's win was built on incredible pack depth and compression. With five runners in the top 13, the Lady Tigers' performance was a masterclass in team running. Freshman Flannery O'Daniel led the charge with a runner-up finish, followed closely by Madysen Hantuba (6th), Everly O'Daniel (8th), Claire Lorimer (12th), and Charlotte Miller (13th). Their 1:28 spread from first to fifth was the tightest of any team in the field, a testament to both talent and cohesion.
Rogers, meanwhile, was led by the brilliance of Lilly Beshears, whose individual win anchored another strong outing from the defending champions. With Samantha Schmersahl (7th), Elizabeth Scudder (9th), Anna Scudder (15th), and Kayla Eggers (16th) all finishing inside the top 20, Rogers delivered an elite performance that would have won most years. But Bentonville's depth was simply too much to overcome, as the Lady Mounties finished just seven points behind, 44-37, one of the closest 6A margins in several years.
Behind the two Northwest Arkansas juggernauts, Bentonville West claimed third with 104 points, powered by their own balanced pack led by Cameron Brown and Caitlin Paul. Cabot (138) and Fayetteville (170) rounded out the top five, both showing strong pack running but lacking the low sticks to challenge for the title.
In the end, the 2025 6A Girls Championship represented the peak of Arkansas girls' cross country, blistering individual performances, deep team fields, and the continuation of one of the state's most storied rivalries. Rogers and Bentonville pushed each other to new heights, and for the first time since 2022, it was the Lady Tigers of Bentonville who emerged as champions once again.
