It was a great weekend for the girls from Northeast Arkansas.
Lauren Thompson and Starlyn Edwards raced to 1st and 2nd place finishes on Saturday at the Frank Horter Night Classic in Memphis, Tennessee, continuing their strong fall seasons.
Thompson, the sophomore from Jonesboro, raced to her second victory of the season, running a 18:39.20. Saturday was her third time running under 18:40 on the season, more than anyone else in Class 5A.
Edwards, a senior from Paragould, dipped under 19 minutes for the first time in her career, running a 18:46.60. In five outings this season, Edwards has yet to finish worse than 3rd, which includes a pair of wins.
Following their strong performances over the weekend, Thompson sits with the 8th fastest time in the state while Edwards now ranks 13th.
With just one month until the state meet in Hot Springs, both runners are getting into championship form. Thompson ranks 4th in Class 6A and Edwards ranks 3rd in Class 5A.
Congratulations Lauren and Starlyn!
